During a lovely stroll on the beach, you come across a message in a bottle. Naturally, your interest is piqued, so you tear into the bottle to reveal the message. In your interactive notebook, respond to the following questions:

What circumstances led to this message being written?
What does the message say?
What, emotionally, made this person feel like the message was necessary?

Look back at your answers. Perhaps you started to tap into an important idea, here. According to Roger Rosenblatt, "In the first place, in the last place, this is what we people do--write messages to one another. We are a narrative species. We exist by storytelling." If this is true, then like the person who wrote the message in the bottle, there is an idea within you that must get out. Through this lesson and course, you will work to find and tell your story.
